In response her observation of increased global urbanisation and our collective reliance on foreign food sources, with IndoorFarming, London designer Pia Wustenberg explores the practical and emotional consequences of furniture that grows food.

Couch Potato?
Part of  Wustenberg’s inspiration for the project was knowing that one square meter of soil will yield 3kg of potatoes or 2kg of runner beans–brings new meaning to the term couch potato.

These are all excellent reasons to support the urban farm but there are other reasons too. Itâ??s fun to meet your friends and work on a city garden or farm. Itâ??s very satisfying work and a great new way to hang out. Put the iPod on while you farm. Some of my co-workers pooled together to get a small plot of land for farming and gardening within the city limits. I was there last night and we watched the sun go down from a small urban farm while electronic music sputtered lovingly from the iPod. Wished you were there.
