Capturing Rain Elegantly
January 18, 2010 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
A Drop of Water is a rain barrel that makes saving water very easy by providing a built-in watering can that fills automatically when it rains. This way, the user doesn’t have to fill the can with tap water, but instead uses ‘free’ rainwater to water the garden. With the small tap at the bottom of the barrel the watering can can be refilled after use. It’s compact size makes A Drop of Water perfect for small gardens, balconies, and terraces.
The product’s Dutch designer, Bas van der Veer, a recent graduate of Design Academy Eindhoven, says about himself, “My passion as a designer is to translate my dreams and wishes into real products that are useful to myself and to others. Creating my own visual world where I make the rules. I always strive for products with a fresh and clear concept about cultural heritage, natural principles, a certain production technique or environmental issues.”

Gorgeous! Built in watering can?!?! We just posted how to make a your own rain collector, but it’s just a big bucket and a tube. The tube is for filling up empty water jugs…. I want one of these!!!
