Plant Me a Desk
January 19, 2010 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
It’s the dead of winter and you want to use this garden down time to plan for the spring. You’ve scanned the web and all your garden books for inspiration. Now it’s time to bring pencil to paper and dig your hands into the virtual dirt.
Jin-woog Koo, director of the Nothing Design Group has designed The Play Ground Play Table, a table/desk with space for your indoor garden. You can draw your plans while tending to vegetation that will nurture your gardening spirit.
The compartmentalized tabletop incorporates ‘fish bowls,’ fields of grass, and ‘potted’ plants alongside traditional storage space. The table surface is predominantly open with a freely moving transparent acrylic glass providing a work surface (ball bearings set into the table top ensure that it rolls easily).
Addressing the relationship between people and their environment, The Nothing Design Group creates experiences rather than standard furniture and spaces. According to the designers, with their Eastern ideological foundation, their purpose is to study the relationship between humans and their environment.
I don’t know about the fish–personally I don’t want little eyes staring up at me while I think.
