August 7, 2011 by Robin Plaskoff Horton

Redesdale Residence
Skimming the perimeter of the Silverlake Reservoir in East Los Angeles, is a custom residence perched high on a ridge line with sweeping views of the reservoir below. Designed with a series of terraced interior levels, each of the primary areas–eating, living and sleeping spaces–were autonomous while each space maintained a specific connection to the adjacent outdoor spaces and breathtaking views.

Architect Michael Ferguson’s design is defined by a series of interlocking plaster and wood spaces that offer privacy yet at the same time permit unobstructed views fo the water below.

Organized around three levels interlocking a central stairwell, the top level contains the master suite and study, both with large windows giving way to peaceful water views.

Along with a guest room, the middle entrance level contains an open kitchen and dining area that spill out onto a terraced wood deck with steps that multi-function as a banquette for seating.
Stepping one level down in another direction, another set of wide glass sliding doors from the lower-level living room open onto a small landscaped patch beside the decked outdoor kitchen and dining area, allowing choices for where to enjoy the bucolic vistas.
