Small But Mighty Concrete Garden Containers
September 6, 2011 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
Rough Fusion is the creative endeavor for which artist Pawel Mikoluk creates charming small planters from industrial concrete.
They are mighty but small: from 3 inches round to up to a hefty 8 inches.
Suitable for both indoor and outdoor gardens, the small but substantial, heavy pots and vases are a beautiful contrast for the most delicate plants.
Some are smooth, while others are grittier, with rough textures, stripes or bursts of color.
The artist, who loves to plant them with succulents, has been inspired by his surroundings, both the architecture of the big city and the organic shapes found in nature.
The process involves the creation of a plaster model, then a silicon mold, after which Mikoluk pours the concrete infused with with pigment.
Colors won’t rub off as the planters are not painted, and they’ll withstand the elements as they are protected with a coat of sealant.

Cool! Having made paintings out of pigmented cement for my senior thesis in college, I understand the complexities of making these lovely little creations. They are wonderful!

Beautiful creations, just wish we didn’t have to stick to disposables in the field of hydroponics! Perhaps I’ll get something similar for when they come out of the water.

What can be used to color concrete garden ornaments after they have already been made?
