Vertical Garden Apartments: Outside-In
October 15, 2011 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
Faced with the challenge of incorporating a garden in the design of an apartment building on a small plot of land, Mexico City-based architecture firm BNKR Arquitectura had a novel solution: they turned the garden on its side.
By folding and wrapping the garden around the three sides of the plot, separating it from the glass-clad building, the living space became open to the full experience of the surrounding vertical gardens.
The result was s sense of “private openness” which offered the inhabitants full view of the building’s exterior while maintaining absolute privacy.

What a cool idea! It’s a great way to garden when you don’t have the space. Love it!

Needs a few portholes to prevent that boxed up feeling, but I like the overall concept. Best done with lianas, I suppose.

Vertical Gardening is a great concept that solves a few different challenges but is not without a couple of it’s own. All of those can be overcome though. For some great ideas about how to build one that suits an individuals needs check out http://www.verticalgardeningsystems.com

But their home won’t get ANY sunlight; they’re just looking at plants. That’s a horrible way to live, unless I’m missing something…
