Zoie Planter Brings Green Style Indoors

March 8, 2012 by

Through the design of her Zoie Planter, Helen Kontouris expresses her belief that “ecology in design today, rests on the role of the designer as cultural architect, creating products with clear purpose, intelligent material appropriateness and function that arrest you with their beauty and promote a movement against ‘throwawayism’.

Kontouris believes that, if we are emotionally attached enough to a product, we can be “green” as we will hold on to it, will not want to discard it.  “When you no longer need it,” the designer suggests, “give it to someone whom you know admires it or to charity for those who need it more now than you.”

The planters come in a range of sizes and colors–from large enough to function as a focal point in the living room floor, to mini enough to sit nicely on even a small tabletop.

I am love with the Zanzibar Gem color, above. 🙂

I like the look of it. I hadnâ??t thought about the practical applications of harvesting until Kimâ??s comment. Although I donâ??t know how many edibles it would be deep enough for.
