Planted Stone Trophy Grows in Paris Streets
April 8, 2012 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
Here’s a living, growing, trophy that continues to salute winners long after it has been awarded. To illustrate the theme “naturally curious” for Paris’s 2006 edition of The Incredible Rally, a giant treasure hunt through Paris’s 11th district, the design firm l”air de Rien dreamt up the idea a cobblestone trophy imbedded with seeds that, once planted in the streets, grows as a living tribute to rally winners. The city invited winners to plant and water their stone trophy then watch it grow watercress (3rd place winners), flowers of echyzophela (2nd place winners), and a silk tree (1st place.) I’m not sure how one cultivates and eats the watercress, but it’s a cool idea.
The rally (L’Incroyable Rallye) which meets annually and attracts over 1500 participants, aims to offer playful exploration of the French capital outside the usual tourist sites, combining creative venues, unusual shops, and extraordinary, unexpected experiences while on the hunt.
And who would have thought you could get plants from a stone?

Such an interesting way to incorporate sustainability with the nature of the event…great design! We’ve been designing similar awards to recognize interesting leaders and events. Nice work!
