Wings of Steel Chair Takes Flight
October 3, 2012 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
I love Brooklyn designer, Laurie Beckerman’s new Wings of Steel chair. Nominated for a Best of Year award from Interior Design magazine and exhibited at ICFF, it’s fabricated from laser cut steel and powder coated in a variety of colors but also available in stainless steel.
The chair has the durability and strength of steel but, in the designer’s words, ” the form is light as a butterfly about to take flight.”
With its laser cut strips, changing the angle of the chair creates different optical patterns and shadows.
I’ve featured another Beckerman design in the past, her curvy Corian rocker, a very solid and heavy sculptural piece for two–a strong contrast to this newer airy piece.
Like the Wings of Steel chair? You can cast your vote for it at www.vote.interiordesign.net, category: outdoor seating.
