2012 Holiday Gift Guide: Gifts That Give Back
December 17, 2012 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
In 2012 I want to offer gifts from sources trying to make the world a better place by supporting charitable causes. This year we have collectively endured many difficult times, from the destruction resulting from Hurricane Sandy to the massacre recently of innocent people including twenty young children. I found a selection of companies whose mission is to raise awareness of and fund initiatives that advance social change. Each year, for example, Gardener’s Supply Company donates 8% of its profits to programs and organizations, such as The American Community Gardening Association, that are using gardening to improve the world.
My search revealed a number of organizations and community resources offering high quality, beautiful items whose profits (at various percentages) go toward the support of various worthy social causes. Every little thing we do has an impact. I hope you will find something here for someone on your list, and in the process, feel that you have contributed a bit to the the greater good:
1. Slim Colorful Hose, $39.95 | 2. Compact VegTrug Patio Garden, $151.49 | 3. Flock of Chicks, $20 | 4. Be Awesome Poster, $25 | 5. Sarong (or tablecloth), $55 | 6. Bamboo Egg Birdhouse, $21.95 | 7. Great idea, companies helping a cause need all the support they can get.
