Geometric Medici Chair Goes Outdoors
March 29, 2013 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
Last fall I fell in love with a sleek red chair in the window of the Conran Shop in London.
To mark their 25th anniversary at the Michelin Building, Jasper Conran had commissioned more than 50 designers to create custom editions of their works in Pantone 032C red–one of my all-time favorite colors.
Designer Konstantin Grcic’s wood Medici chair for Mattiazzi was the one that initially caught my eye. Low but wide, the chair was surprisingly comfortable. Says Grcic of his design, “I like the idea of wood cut into planks, which is how it is processed in the first place: the tree slices into planks.”
Grcic’s arranged Medici’s wood planks to create a simple yet beautiful geometry whose angles are visually pleasing at the same time practical for reclining comfortably indoors or outdoors.
Available in natural waxed American walnut, natural waxed Douglas fir (also available in aniline dyed in yellow or grey), and oiled thermo-treated ash which is great for outdoor use.
