Flower Vase Flips Into Biodegradable Planter

We love multi-functional objects that transform for different functions–perfect for small spaces and urban gardens.

This cool biodegradable flower vase becomes a planter when turned upside down. You might start indoors using the pod as a flower pot, then move it outdoors for planting. Placed directly into the soil, the container will naturally degrade over time leaving the planter-less plant growing in the garden.

The biodegradable pods are made from an eco-friendly plastic (polylactic acid) derived from corn starch, as well as from recycling plant resources such as driftwood collected from a dam reservoir, shavings and waste timber chips left over from the portable shrine’s woodwork, and scrap waste such as soft rush (Juncus affusus) from woven Tatami mats.

Designed for the Rebirth Project, a collaboration of designers creating sustainable products made only from recycled eco-friendly materials, by Leif Designpark whose cool Lin Pod planter bench for De La Espada we featured from designjunction last fall.
