Designer Farrah Sit’s Hanging Gardens

Remember those Isosceles and Scalene triangles you learned about in school? Brooklyn designer Farrah Sit would make Euclid proud. She creates objects, like her Tetra, Graphite, and Ballast planters using these geometric shapes.

Sit loves geometry, and I love the knife-sharp angles and planes of her pyramidal Ballast collection planters, above. Since I featured her leather and porcelain hanging planters a few years ago, Sit has been rather prolific.
Each of her minimalist Tetra hanging fixtures features a handcrafted solid brass framework with either a hand-blown glass interior pendant light or a ceramic planter, both which appear to float within their angular frames.
Her Graphite collection is visually similar to their Tetra cousins, but these hanging gardens have frames constructed from graphite steel.
I first saw the designer’s work at last year’s Architectural Digest Show in New York, where she also exhibited some of the tabletop planters she makes using the same techniques and materials, each filled with elegant floral creations from Fox Fodder Farm.
For her company, Light and Ladder, Sit works with local New York artisans and manufacturers using fair and sustainable production methods, a reflection of her interest in nature and her attention to detail and quality.
