Voltasol Sun Chasing Planters
August 2, 2015 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
How cool would it be if your potted plants could chase the sun all by themselves? Welcome Voltasol, a flowerpot that turns on the axis of its semi-conical base to follow the trajectory of the sun and attract more sunlight.
Inspired by the movement of sunflowers, Voltasol is the brainchild of designer Xavier Mora of Girona, Spain-based Studio BAG and her first product in the LivingThings collection for home and garden.
As it toward the sun, the plant upsets Voltasol’s balance causing the planter to tilt spontaneously or maybe with a gardener’s gentle tap. In a breeze, says the designer, these sun chasing planters move like a sail in the wind.
Handmade of waterproof terracotta in La Bisbal d’Empordà, Spain, Voltasol received the 2015 Red Dot Design Award after making its debut in 2014 at Temps de Flors, Girona’s town-wide floral festival.
