Martina Lang’s “Paper/Plant” Photography Series
July 14, 2016 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
Photographer Martina Lang’s nature-themed works all contain underlying elements of humor and surrealism. Her pastel ‘paper/plant’ photography series exudes a softness, capturing various plants peeking out of abstract paper shapes against a backdrop of a clean white wall and natural wood floors.
“More than anything, I identify with the profession of a storyteller,” says Lang, who is also a freelance art director.
Her graphic-inspired, playful shots provide a subdued pop of color that contrasts nicely with the plants.
Consistently drawn to themes or motifs involving nature, Lang suggests about her choice of themes, that “maybe it has to do with my upbringing. I also find humor irresistibly attractive.”
Lang invites us to see plants and flowers in a different way. Interested in discovering the hidden life of flowers? Treat yourself or someone else to a visual journey looking at flowers in a way you may have never done before with photographer Robert Llewellyn’s beautifully photographed book, Seeing Flowers.
