Functional and Fashionable Lamp Doubles as a Planter
August 12, 2016 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
I love double duty and multi-functional designs, and a lamp doubling as planter is kind of a no-brainer since plants need light. Lighting and plants are a symbiotic pairing that can be both fashionable and functional, stylish and sustainable.
Polish designers Agnieszka Janukanis and Zuzanna Krauze of Lightovo bring us Milo, a lamp with a hand-blown glass shade that houses a potted plant.
The plant provides a decorative element for the light fixture, while the LED 4000K bulb bathes the plant in artificial light that’s similar to daylight. And since LEDs don’t generate heat, the plants won’t overheat.
The lamp shade’s two large openings allow for air circulation and make it easy to place and remove the plant.
Milo’s got a baby sibling, the smaller Milo Baby. The version with a birch or beech wood cap contrasts nicely with the glass.
Adding to its multi-functioning nature, Milo can be suspended as a hanging lamp or placed on a tabletop. Nice.
And with some imagination, there are likely other ways of hanging Milo…
