Socially Distancing At Home Around a Fire Pit
July 4, 2020 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
In the age of coronavirus, entertaining and social distancing outdoors around a fire pit is the perfect solution. Socializing in fresh air is safer and healthier too: one’s chances of catching the virus are twenty times lower outdoors than indoors and studies show that time spent al fresco is both physically and mentally restorative.
Here are my picks for outdoor fire features:
1. Solo Bonfire
A smokeless and portable design perfect for small urban spaces, this stainless steel fire pit’s system maximizes airflow to generate less smoke without the need for batteries and fans. The Bonfire burns wood efficiently, leaving only ultra-fine ash to make clean-up super easy.

4. Angled Obelisk Chiminea
A modern take on the traditional chiminea, this one will be a focal point on the patio. Constructed from a single piece of weathering Corten steel, a heat-resistant steel alloy that develops a stable, rust-like finish when exposed to the elements.

7. Black Iron Fire Bowl

8. Corten Steel Fire Bowl

9. Small Square Wood Burning Fire Feature
Actually a fire pit “column” features a 29-inch tall square fire basket atop a cool light gray ceramic base. A sleek and functional design that keeps you and your guests safe from sparks and other debris, the raised design also leaves plenty of space under the basket for storing wood. 14 x 14 x 29.

10. Marshmallow and Hot Dog Roaster
Did I hear s’mores? Add to the experience around the fire pit by roasting some hot dogs, and marshmallows, or making s’mores when telling some campfire stories. You could use an ordinary stick if you could find one long and sturdy enough, but a roaster stick makes it easier with its built-in crank makes it easy to “flip” the food for even cooking. Just place a hot dog or two marshmallows on the stainless steel prongs and you’re ready to roast.
